*POSITION FILLED* Proactive Family Assistant Needed For 2 School Age Kids in Winnetka, IL - $30-$35 per hour! - Job #502

A busy family of 4 is searching for a full-time Family Assistant to care for their 2  children ages 9 and 5. They are guaranteeing 45 hours per week (opportunity for more overtime) at $30-$35 per hour + benefits. This comes out to a base guaranteed salary of $74k-$86k per year for 45 hours per week. They highly value a nanny’s role and have had only 2 nannies in 9 years! Their previous nannies have stayed long term because they are a kind and loving family who understands what it means to be a good employer. We even spoke with one of their previous nannies and she absolutely sings their praises! They do not micromanage and give autonomy to their nanny to take ownership of their role and run with the position. Both kids are in school 5 days per week, so this position is a hybrid of family assistant while kids are at school and nanny when kids are home. The typical schedule will be Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 7:15am-5:30pm, Wednesdays from 7:45am-6pm, and Fridays from 1pm-5pm. The hours on Wednesdays/Fridays may change on occasion when dad travels, but the family will provide ample notice to ensure the nanny can plan accordingly.

Both mom and dad work demanding jobs, so they depend on their nanny’s reliability and punctuality. Their ideal candidate has experience with this sort of role and is able to stay organized, proactive, and anticipate household needs without much direction. A typical day will involve getting the kids ready for school by making a simple breakfast, packing lunches, making sure they’ve made their beds, ensuring their backpacks have everything they need, and then dropping them off at school (nanny car provided!). After drop off you will head back home to clean up from breakfast and then tackle various family assistant responsibilities such as grocery shopping, meeting a repair person at the house, organizing, prepping fruits/veggies so they are easy to grab for snack, running errands, taking cars to get washed/serviced, keeping inventory of staple items that are running low and adding them to the shopping list, laundry, and more. No deep-cleaning involved, but this is a role that involves assisting with the entire household, not just the children. Candidates who are skilled at cooking and wouldn’t mind preparing a couple of family meals per week would be a huge bonus, but absolutely not required! The afternoon routine involves picking the kids up from school and transporting them to their respective activities and then home to work on homework. The older child has more extracurriculars than the younger child, so they would really like someone who will proactively plan fun outings, activities, and social opportunities for their youngest.

It’s important to them that they can come home from work and fully focus on quality time with their children. This means, their family assistant will be responsible for ensuring homework is completed, the kids’ have put away their belongings, the kitchen is cleaned up, etc. before leaving for the day. They are big on instilling age-appropriate responsibilities, so not all of the chores fall on the family assistant, however, they would love someone who can be consistent with having the kids be responsible for their own items as well as helping with age-appropriate tasks. In terms of their parenting style, they describe themselves as not very strict. They have firm baseline rules on things such as being respectful, treating others with kindness, doing your homework, making your bed, etc., but other than that, they do try to say “yes” as much as possible. They believe in having a “can do” attitude and encourage new things the kids want to try. With all this said, while they don’t define themselves as “strict”, they are firm with the rules and boundaries they have in place and are looking for a caregiver who can also be consistent and follow through. They believe everyone should be on the same page and that the kids respond best when all adults enforce the same rules and back each other up. When it comes to discipline, they use a connected approach that involves talking things through and helping their kids learn to identify and manage their emotions.

At the end of the day, they are looking for someone both the kids and the parents enjoy being around, someone who is fun and willing to plan engaging activities for the kids, and someone who is skilled at taking ownership of a family assistant role by being able to proactively meet expectations without the parents needing to check-in to ensure things are getting done. This position involves a lot of autonomy and they would love to find someone who is confident using their judgment to plan and structure each day!
